Our HIStory

1916

On April 16th, 36 believers originating from the West Side Church of Christ, along with its pastor William G. Oram, gathered together to organize the Church of Christ of East Dayton.  5 deacons were elected and a church covenant was signed. 

1916

On April 18th, a second meeting was held, and the new church voted unanimously to purchase the Seventh Day Adventist property on Pleasant St, giving Church of Christ of East Dayton its first home.

1917

Electric lights are installed in the Pleasant Street location and John Persinger becomes the lead pastor.

1952

Property is purchased at 3415 Linden Ave, and the Pleasant Street location is sold.  Work began on new building and parsonage on Linden Ave.  

1955

William Fenner, Ed Dement, and Paul Dunn are installed as the church's first elders.

1956

On April 1, Easter services are held at the new building on Linden Ave, the first time the new building is used for services.  The parsonage is also completed. 

1959

Amendments are made to the original by-laws, dropping all references to the "disciples of Christ" denomination.  

1963

Construction begins on the new auditorium and remodeling of the existing building.  

1964

On May 17, the new worship facilities are completed and Fellowship Hall is dedicated.  The existing building is converted to church offices.  

1965

Elders from Church of Christ of East Dayton, along with leaders of Latonia Christian church, start the Greater Dayton Evangelizing Fellowship.  This organization is responsible for planting Southern Hills of Christ and Valleyview Christian Church.

1976

Church of Christ of East Dayton reaches its largest size since opening its doors, averaging over 400 people at worship service, during the ministry of Jim Rackham. 

1977

Elders of Church of Christ of East Dayton and other nearby churches dissolve the Greater Dayton Evangelizing Fellowship to form the Miami Valley Evangelizers Organization.  They planted Southbrook Christian Church, South Dayton Christian Church, and Northern Hills Christian Church. 

1986

Several Families of Church of Christ of East Dayton split the church to plant Beavercreek Christian Church.  

1995

The Recovery Christian Church begins to hold services in the junior chapel, and later joins the church as Church of Christ of East Daytone's first recovery ministry.  

1996

Church of Christ of East Dayton holds its "Outdoor Community Service" with a record attendance of over 600 people.  

2005

The church adopts new by-laws, undergoes leadership restructuring, and begins double services. 

2006

Church of Christ of East Dayton changes its name and begins to go by East Dayton Christian Church (EDCC).

2010

EDCC Partners with The Hearth Community Place, a food pantry based in Dayton.  The Hearth uses fellowship hall and the kitchen for their ministry.

2016

EDCC Celebrates its 100th anniversary.  

2018

Kyle Gulley is appointed as the Lead Pastor after serving at EDCC as Youth Minister and Outreach Pastor.

2020

The Global Covid Pandemic affects churches throughout the country including in Dayton, Ohio. Forced to cancel in person church services, Pastor Gulley and his team work quickly to initiate online services that could be viewed on Social Media.

2022

East Dayton Christian Church partners with Isaiah 117 House to help foster children who are just recently separated from their families.
